Dennis Martinez, El Presidente

Dennis Martinez‘s ‘stache served as a beacon of hope for the Tribe faithful when he signed with the Indians before the 1994 season.

Until then, what free agent worth a darn had any interest in continuing their careers in Cleveland?

Well, with a nickname like El Presidente and mustache to boot, it was obvious that Martinez oozed confidence.

His addition helped change the culture around Cleveland. With an amazing core of young talent built around Kenny Lofton, Albert Belle and Carlos Baerga, Martinez trailblazed a path for other veterans to come to the north shore.

Amazingly, Martinez would go on to be an All-Star the following year in his age 41 season, and he was a key part of the Tribe’s run to the AL pennant.

For his career, he won 245 games, which is still the most by a latin pitcher.
