Jack Morris, Starting Pitcher

Jack Morris‘ mustache made it clear. He’d been around, done some things, earned a boat-load of money along the way, but darn it, he loved baseball and he wasting to go quietly into retirement.

How else do you explain Morris on the 1994 tribe?

The Indians were opening a new ballpark and needed help in the rotation to compliment young starter Charles Nagy and their budding core of super star players.

Morris went 10-6 with the Indians, but posted a 5.60 ERA, and he was released three days before the players strike that ended the 1994 season.

He tried to make a comeback with the Reds in 1995, but it just wasn’t there any longer for the former ace, who was baseball’s highest paid pitcher in 1987, 1988, 1991 and 1993.

Morris had 254 wins in his career, and got close to being elected to the Hall, but couldn’t get the 75 percent of votes required for admittance. The biggest case for Morris’ Hall of Fame case, was his .577 winning percentage, which is incredible considering he threw 175 complete games.

You’ll never see that again.
