10 moves the Cleveland Browns must make during the 2018 offseason
1. Make the coaching trade
If the Bengals want Hue Jackson, the Browns have to let him leave. I’m a fan of Hue, I believe he can be a winning coach, but following 1-31, he needs a change of scenery. Cincinnati would be the perfect place.
That’s even more true following the news that Bengals owner Mike Brown and coach Marvin Lewis will take some time before making a definitive decision on Lewis’ future, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
And now with John Dorsey reportedly making the calls regarding Browns assistant coaches, it just seems strange for Hue to stay.
How’s Hue supposed to respond to this? One tweet noted as many as eight Browns assistants would be let go. Doesn’t Hue have to be thinking that Dorsey would get rid of him if it weren’t for the owner.
It’s such a strange dynamic, which is why the Cincinnati option is so intriguing.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam could save some face by not tossing Jackson to the curb. Instead, he’d be delivering him to a better situation where he’s wanted.
Then, the Browns could could totally wash their hands of 0-16 by hiring a new coach.
It was strange to hear Jimmy Haslam, when asked about the Bengals option following the Pittsburgh loss. He said “We’re delighted to have Hue Jackson as our coach.”
He didn’t shut down any Bengals rumors like he shut down the rumors of his family selling the franchise.
It’s something to watch, but this can’t drag on forever. Eventually the Browns have to move forward with someone as their coach, and for right now, it’s Jackson.
