Cleveland Browns: Hue Jackson’s ego doesn’t want an offensive coordinator
Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson is still mulling whether to hire an offensive coordinator — wait, what?
After promising to hire an offensive coordinator, Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson is now considering not hiring an OC. According to Mary-Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Jackson is “evaluating whether or not he’ll hire an OC.”
Now, that report begs one question — is this guy serious? Jackson is the worst head coach in the NFL and should be thanking his lucky stars he’s still employed.
The man just went 0-16 and is 1-31 in two seasons at the helm. Billed as an offensive “guru” when owner Jimmy Haslam made the hire, Jackson’s offense has ranked 31st and 32nd during his tenure, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com.

While it’s understood Jackson didn’t have much talent to work with on offense, his play-calling is atrocious. It remains a major road block amid the search for a silver lining in his imminent 2018 return to the sidelines.
Most notably, Jackson’s agonizing tendency to stray from the run game highlights his need for an OC. Isaiah Crowell was among the NFL’s most efficient running backs in 2017.
The statistics illustrate the Browns effective running game behind their revamped offensive line. According to Pro-Football-Reference.com, the 2017 Browns ranked sixth in yards per carry. Furthermore, their 1,714 rushing yards were 18th in the league.
If the Browns are a top-six rushing team in terms of yards-per-attempt, then how did they rank 18th in total rushing? Well, the team’s 384 rushing attempts were 28th in the league — while their 574 pass attempts were ninth in the league.
Bottomline, it’s remarkable an offensive “guru” such as Jackson abandoned his team’s strength so quickly. Jackson thought placing the ball in the hands of his turnover-prone, rookie quarterback 30 times per game was the better option.
Not only is Jackson’s play-calling abysmal, his game management also suffers as a result. New England Patriots’ Bill Belichick doesn’t call plays. Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin doesn’t call plays. Kansas City Chiefs’ Andy Reid doesn’t call plays.
See a pattern?
But Hue Jackson believes Hue Jackson is the best man for the job — and his ego knows best, according to Hue Jackson. The hiring of general manager John Dorsey is a major coup for the franchise.

Although, the bumbling, incumbent head coach holds the ability to undermine forward progress. It’s time for Jackson to take his promised plunge into Lake Erie — and swim until he’s far, far away from First Energy Stadium.
