With the Mavericks in the tank, they have one desirable Cavs’ fans should want to pry away: Wesley Matthews.

He’s headed for unrestricted free agency, but he can guard the perimeter and he’s shooting .382 from 3-point range. Matthews, 31, is shooting 39.7 percent on catch-and-shoot attempts from beyond the arc, which is sixth-best  in the NBA with the amount of opportunities he has.

Matthews won’t factor into the team’s long term plans, but he’d be an upgrade over J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert.

The Cavs would also be doing the Mavericks a favor in acquiring former first-round pick Nerlens Noel.

The Cavs wire pointed out how Nowel, who is recovering from a thumb injury and will be out a month would utilize the 6-foot-11 Noel.

Bryan Kalbrosky wrote:

"“The 6-foot-11 big man was one of the best players at his position when his team ran a transition offense. During his 2015-16 campaign, the players who had the best field goal percentage and effective field goal percentage among those with many chances in transition were Noel and James. So far this season, Cleveland has executed transition plays more often than all but five teams in the NBA.”"

Again, if the Mavericks are willing to take the Cavaliers first-round pick which is currently the 24th overall selection, then lets talk.

Otherwise, trading what could be fifth pick in the draft for these two players would set the franchise back for years, especially if James leave via free agency.

Keep an eye on the Mavericks those, because Matthews is a player who can help.
