Cleveland Indians: Logo change is up for debate
By Ryan Rosko
Like it or not, a noticeable difference will be seen on the Cleveland Indians’ jerseys in the foreseeable future.
Nothing ever remains the same, whether that is in sports or life in general. Teams regularly update their uniforms and/or logos, which has been evident by the Cleveland Indians‘ usage of the “block C”
While change can be good and appreciated, this decision is certainly not a slam dunk by everyone.
There are those that criticized it because of what the logo looks like, the team’s name, etc. That all can be and is respected. As MLB.com‘s Jordan Bastian explained, this decision was made by both the team and MLB.

On the other hand, we are talking about a famous logo that is up there with the Baltimore Orioles among others that are very recognizable.
Cleveland is getting the 2019 MLB All-Star game… the same year Chief Wahoo is going to be removed. Hopefully, Cleveland can add another logo of some sort rather than everyone seeing just a “C”.
One thing I believe most if not all fans can agree on is the hateful feeling people feel when politics come into sports. Without politics, Chief Wahoo would remain on the jerseys.
Rather than the Indians being politically correct, they went the route of completely removing the logo. Being that it is removed, I’d say oh well but not replacing it with something worthwhile is not right. Maybe the Dolans decide to do something like that, but it certainly won’t happen tomorrow.
If the Tribe has to get rid of Chief Wahoo, Florida State, the Kansas City Chiefs, and all the other teams with similar logos should remove theirs. Why should Cleveland be forced to remove the Chief when no other team has to change theirs?
If you are interested in buying Chief Wahoo memorabilia (and being that 2018 is the last season), maybe you’ll find some items on the streets outside of Progressive Field in 2019 like you currently can. If not there, online websites are always an option. In Bastian’s piece, it discussed retail but I take that with a grain of salt for now.
There wasn’t as much debate to this extent when the Major League movies were being released. Regardless of where you stand on this, one thing that can’t be ignored is the passion behind both sides of the fence. There will be those that continue to be pro-Chief Wahoo, while others sharing the opposite mindset.

While this is being done with good reasoning, unless other teams were forced to remove their logos (and probably even if they had), I cannot get behind this. That said, I completely respect and understand why those who feel differently.about this topic.
