Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State

In recent drafts, Ohio State has had multiple cornerbacks who have excelled at the next level in Broncos’ Bradley Roby and New Orleans Saints’ Marshon Lattimore.

Hopefully, Ward can be the next one added to that group. He is the best cover corner in the draft and it will be extremely difficult to get past Ward on any route. Ward, who ran a 4.32 40 at the combine, has his quickness and long-distance speed working for him as he improves other parts of his game.

The impressive part of Ward’s game is that his other part of his game is not far off from quickness and speed. If Dorsey prefers a corner with better football skills instead of cover skills, he will have very few to choose from.

Whether it is Ward’s recovery speed, the angles he takes defending wideouts with fluid hips, or the overall athleticism he has, he is going to make a play. Throughout his time at Ohio State, I could not believe opposing offenses continued to throw at him.

When needed, Ward is also a solid run defender when running backs get to the outside. In three seasons, Ward accumulated 24 pass deflections, two interceptions, and 67 tackles.
