Let’s go against the traditional Cleveland Browns mock drafts for once.

A new front office regime, quarterback, running back, wide receiver, but the same head coach will factor into exactly how much success the Cleveland Browns will have later this year.

With the 2018 NFL Draft coming up, the feeling of excitement is stirring back up. After all, Cleveland has struggled for years. The draft has been viewed as the one sliver of optimism and hope for the future.

Some areas of need have been solved but others still have room to improve. In a couple of spots, that room is substantial.

Head coach Hue Jackson‘s time in Cleveland is dwindling as 1-31 says all anyone needs to know. He may pull out a few wins that aren’t expected this fall but that will be more on the players added by general manager John Dorsey rather than Jackson’s coaching.

Looking at the roster and combining that with either a mock draft or the actual draft results, the players on the roster are added because they best suit the team now and for the long-term in the GM’s eyes.

It doesn’t matter who the coach is because players are not drafted just because a certain coach is on the sideline. So, evaluating the big picture, here is what I would do with nine picks if I were in Dorsey’s shoes.
