LeBron James: Cleveland Cavaliers’ moves and fanbase appreciation enough?
By Ric McElroy
In addition to the team’s moves up to this point, the Voice of the Fan wonders if the Cleveland Cavaliers fans’ appreciation of LeBron James was enough to keep him in Ohio.
Cleveland Cavaliers fans expected to have an inkling of what LeBron James would do by now. I thought there could have been some sign during or immediately after the draft but none came to light.
While we wait, it is more than understandable that James needed time to recover after almost, yes I said almost, single-handedly carrying Cleveland to yet another NBA finals title.
Did you really expect the Cavaliers team that made it to the championship to win it? It was a LBJ miracle they got as far as they did! With the youth they got prior to the trading deadline, not to mention their inexperience, it had to make at least some of you wonder, right?
Larry Nance Jr. showed signs of his value in spurts not to mention what Rodney Hood could possibly do if given time to assimilate. That said, don’t forget Cleveland had little practice time with the season going on.
None of those new teammates were spot-up three-point shooters. With the exception of George Hill, they also did not have experience running the point.
Those aspects are what Ty Lue’s offense is predicated on! With that in mind, I hope that will change next year if LeBron stays or goes.
There have been billboards and ads not to mention social media posts all trying to persuade James and get his attention, letting him know how much that team’s fanbase wants him.
The Lakers, Sixers, and other various teams did whatever they could to grab his attention. I think some may have even been willing to chip in to pay for his move at the least.
Cleveland fans also expressed their appreciation away from the court through the same way. On top of that, they showed James just what he meant to them at the end of the fourth and final game in the Q of the finals. At that time, they were chanting “MVP” as they expressed their appreciation for what he’s done.
After all, he is just a boy from Akron, Ohio and proud of it. Akron and northeast Ohio are proud of what he’s accomplished and most of all, the way he represents them.
Next: 6 trades to consider with or without LBJ
We can only hope this is enough to help him make up his mind to stay. James already left once and fans don’t want that to happen again. Do you agree?
