Trade Love now

With the Cavs’ rumored to be open to trading Love, the organization could deal him before the start of the 2018-2019 season.

It if it happens, Love must return a first-round pick.

There’s just no point in taking back quality players because dealing Love would be the organization’s signal that they’re going into the tank for a few years.

The problem with this though is that a good team will probably be the one coveting Love, and a pick in the 20s isn’t going to help the Cavs get back back in track.

With news of Boogie Cousins going to the Warriors, there are generously four teams who have a shot of contending for a title.

Perhaps a team like the Thunder want to the enter the conversation. Love would certainly make a good fit playing alongside his college teammate, Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City.

But again, the Thunder’s pick will likely be somewhere in the 20s.

Perhaps a third team gets involved, though, and the Cavs take on a contract. The point is you never know. If teams can come together on something, the cap always seems like it can be manipulated.
