Cleveland Browns: 5 players whose stock rose after preseason opener
Baker Mayfield, QB
There seems to be something different about Baker Mayfield than the other guys the Browns have tried out at the position since returning to the NFL in 1999.
His arrogance may be viewed as cockiness by some, but perhaps it should be viewed as confidence.
You don’t walk on and start for the Oklahoma Sooners and go on to win the Heisman Trophy if you don’t believe in yourself.
Mayfield led a touchdown drive before the end of the half, and another in the third quarter to finish 11 of 20 for 212 yards, two TD passes and no interceptions.
He may big time throws, evidenced by a third-down pass to Antonio Callaway, who made a beautiful catch near the sideline to keep a drive alive.
Mayfield was playing in his first professional game and he looked like he belonged. Sure there were some mistakes and some issues to clean up, but think back to other young quarterback’s who’ve debuted wearing an orange helmet.
Mayfield laid a foundation playing against the Giants second team and it’s something to build on.
