Jeff Janis, WR

Jeff Janis sat out the preseason opener as a precaution to a knee injury, but entering game No. 2, it will be worth watching to see if the Green Bay cult hero can produce.

Rashard Higgins is putting together a nice camp while unknown rookie Damion Ratley is opening eyes.

If you do the math, the wide receiver room fills up quickly with Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway, Josh Gordon (Yes, we’ll count him) and Rashard Higgins securing the first four spots. That leaves Ratley, Janis and probably C.J. Board as the players competing for a spot.

It’d be hard to see the Browns carrying more than six receivers, plus, the team’s working out free agents and may bring someone in, making the number crunch even tighter.

Janis, 27, signed a $1.25 million contract with the Browns, but the deal reportedly comes with no guaranteed cash.

When you’re not near the top of the depth chart, you’ve got to play and Janis is expected to take the field, plus, he should see plenty of opportunities after the starters leave the game.

It won’t hurt that he’ll Baker Mayfield throwing him passes with the second team. Janis enters preseason Week 2 behind Antonio Callaway on the depth chart.
