Zane Gonzalez nailed a 54-yard field goal, giving the Browns’ offense their only points of the game.

The kick probably solidifies Gonzalez as the starter heading into the 2018 season. He had been battling northeast Ohio native Ross Martin for the job.

Gonzalez appeared to have the edge on Martin during the practice week, and the former seventh-round pick came through from way downtown under the stadium lights.

Martin’s had a good camp, but he probably needed to be lights out–and then some–to take the job from the incumbent.

Gonzalez has played well in the preseason, too, and it would really take a supreme effort to take away his roster spot.

Terrance Mitchell got the start opposite Denzel Ward, and he came through with a big pass deflection on a throw from Nick Foles. Fox broadcaster Troy Aikman thought the throw could have been intercepted.

Mitchell’s been on five teams since 2014.

Jarvis Landry became irritated with Mitchell during the latest of episode of Hard Knocks for the tactics he was employing to slow down the fifth-year vet.
