Cleveland Browns bubble watch: 5 players to watch in preseason finale
One WR, 4 names
And just like that, there’s one spot left.
Damion Ratley, the late-round pick who got reps with the No. 1 team last week, seems to have secured a roster spot, meaning he, along with Josh Gordon, Antonio Callaway, Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins will be on the receiving corps in 2018.
Now, Derrick Willies, Da’Mari Scott, Jeff Janis and CJ Board are left to compete for the final job.
Willies may be the front-runner because the guy just keeps having his number called.
He had two touchdowns nullified in preseason Week 2. The first was waved off after Devon Cajuste was flagged for offensive pass interference. The second after he just missed getting his foot in-bounds before his knee. Blink and you would’ve missed it.
Janis is the surprising name of those remaining.
Green Bay fans hated to lose him as Janis had achieved cult-like status among the Cheeseheads. But he’s been unimpressive in two preseason games (he missed the first because of injury).
Not sure if his track record with former Packers’ front-office bosses Alonzo Highsmith and Eliot Wolf will be enough to keep him around.
Board spent most of last season with the Titan’s practice squad. He was cut in November and signed by the Browns.
Scott went undrafted but was signed by the Browns as a free agent in May.
