Know thy enemy

Whenever a guy goes up against his old squad, media and fans alike like to dream up scenarios where the spurned player gives up the trade secrets of his old team.

The HBO cameras didn’t show Mychal Kendricks drawing out the Eagles playbook, but the segment offered compelling footage.

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams asked Kendricks to tell the team what the Eagles do, and why they do it.

Kendricks offered up critiques of Nick Foles‘ passing style, tight end Zach Ertz as the Eagles best receiver, while also highlighting the poor footwork of Halapoulivaati Vaitai.

A lot of what Kendricks said was true, especially the footwork of Vaitai as the Browns, and in particularly, Myles Garrett, bull rushed him all night long.

Kendricks was cut after helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl last season and he’s in contention for a starting job with Cleveland.

It would be a surprise if he doesn’t play a lot of snaps, even if he doesn’t end up starting. The Browns and Williams figure to employ several packages to throw at opposing defenses and the way Kendricks has played this preseason, he better be a major part of the effort.

The season finale of Hard Knocks runs next Tuesday at 10 p.m. The episode will likely cover the preseason finale against the Lions, as well as final cuts, which must be made Saturday as the Browns trip their roster to 53 players.
