5 Cleveland Browns who earned their stripes against Detroit Lions
Devon Cajuste, TE
Devon Cajuste probably makes the team, because frankly, I just don’t know if Seth DeValve will be available for Week 1 against the Steelers.
Perhaps the Browns put DeValve on IR, meaning he could return after Week 6.
Cajuste was stellar to open the game as he caught a 41-yard pass on the first play of the game which on a drive the Browns later scored on.
He did drop one he should have had later in the contest, and there was a penalty, but the guy does seem to know how to get open.
Cajuste was a receiver at Stanford before trying to make it as a tight end in the NFL.
The Browns are set at tight end with David Njoku and Darren Fells, but a Cajuste appears to have done to “earn his stripes.”
Sure, the whole “earn your stripes” phrase is a tad campy, but it should mean something. What did DeVavle earn? Nothing. He couldn’t get on the field.
I know, I know, he was the Browns second-leading receiver last year with 395 yards.
But Njoku’s a year older, now. He’s going to get more reps and has superstar written all over him.
DeValve’s a solid player who’s worth seeing more of, but he’s just not available. The Browns could place him on the reserve/PUP list, meaning he can’t practice or play until Week 6.
