2. The Buckeyes’ defense could outscore Tulane’s offense

Now that the secondary got their slight praise, the defensive line was fantastic once again last weekend. The nation’s best defensive front showed up against TCU as they converted both of the turnovers they caused into touchdowns.

The first touchdown came on a classic Bosa sneak attack off the end where he knocked the ball loose and the Buckeyes recovered to score the first touchdown of the game. The second defensive score came later in the game at a very important juncture. In the third quarter, the Buckeyes’ offense had just responded to a Horned Frogs touchdown with a score of their own but they missed the extra point.

This left the Buckeyes down two points with the Horned Frogs controlling the ball. On the third play of that ensuing drive, defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones picked off a botched pitch from Robinson and had the athleticism to return it 28 yards for a touchdown. That touchdown was easily the biggest play of the game and a huge turning point.

Ohio State never turned back from there as the defense stopped TCU after they could only pull out a five-play drive. The offense went on to score for the Buckeyes in the drive after that and the game soon got out of reach. The Buckeyes never gave up the lead again after that defensive touchdown.

After reaching the end zone twice last weekend, the Buckeyes are tied for first in the nation in defensive touchdowns. Expect that trend to continue as the Buckeyes’ always opportunistic defense continues to mix things up in the backfield. Also, the defensive backs will get in the mix sooner or later to return some interceptions for touchdowns. Expect the Buckeyes to win this game in the turnover category against the Green Wave.
