4. Sam Cassell, Asst. Clippers

Sam Cassell’s first coaching gig came with the Washington Wizards, where he helped develop a point guard by the name of John Wall. The All-Star has since credited Cassell with helping him become of the game’s top court generals.

He’s currently working with Sahi Gilgeous-Alexander, a player the passed on to take instead draft Sexton with the eight pick in last summer’s draft.

Cleveland’s biggest concern right now must be developing rookie point guard CSexton, and having a player who won championships and can coach would be an ideal candidate.

Since his stop with the Wizards, Cassel’s continued to build his coaching resume as an assistant with the Clipers, where he’s worked under Doc Rivers since the 2014 season.

Former NBA coach David Fizdale made the following comments regarding Cassel:

"“Sam is a basketball genius. He understands the nuances of the game as well as anybody. He is a guy who players would love to play for. He brings great energy and spirit to the position. He has learned from the best in [Los Angeles Clippers head coach] Doc [Rivers] and he is a multichampion.”"

Depending on how the season goes, Cleveland could ride this tank job to another high draft pick, meaning Cassell wouldn’t be offered the job until after the season.

With Sexton and another young prospect to add, this might be an appealing landing spot for the long-time assistant.
