Cleveland Browns: Updated record prediction following Hue Jackson firing
Predicting the Cleveland Browns schedule following the team’s dismal of Hue Jackson as head coach and Todd Haley as offensive coordinator.
The Cleveland Browns had a tough time winning games with a coaching staff in place. Now, with upheaval at the team’s Berea, Ohio headquarters, there’s no telling how the team will when they take the field against the Chiefs on Sunday.
Here’s how the rest of the schedule looks.
Week 9, Chiefs: This one’s at home, and while an eternal optimist may give them a chance, Cleveland looks poised to get blown out, meaning their record would fall to 2-6-1.

Week 10, Falcons: This one’s also at home against a Falcons team that hasn’t quite recovered from blowing a 25-3 two Super Bowls ago. What will Cleveland’s offense look like, though? This is shaping up to be a Browns’ loss, meaning Cleveland will drop to 2-7-1. A defeat here also marks the Browns fourth loss in a row.
Week 11, Bye
Week 12, at Bengals: Say what you want about the Bengals, but Marvin Lewis has them scoring points. Browns drop to 2-8-1.
Week 13, at Texans: Bill O’Brien looks to have the Texans finally moving. AFC South will be their to lose and there’s no way they lose this one at home. Browns drop to 2-9-1.
Week 14, Panthers: Cam Newton and company are just a game behind the Saints in the NFC South. Hard to see Newton let his team take a loss in a game that will have a major playoff implications. Cleveland spirals down to 2-10-1.
Week 15, at Broncos: There’s nothing special about Denver this season and something tells me Baker Mayfield is able to pull off the sunset. Cleveland gets its first road win since 2015 to improve to 3-10-1.
Week 16, Bengals: Cincinnati may be competing with Pittsburgh for the AFC North title and that tie to start the year may really come back to haunt the Steelers. Cincinnati finishes off the season sweep of the Browns to win the AFC North. Browns fall to 3-11-1.
Week 17, at Baltimore: Ha, like the Browns are going to win their last game of the season, on the road no, less. The book closes on a 3-12-1 campaign that was once filled with ope.
Summary: Yikes, I had the Browns going 9-7 this season. It’s hard to believe the Browns played meaningful games into October, even beating the Ravens at home to pull their record to 2-2-1.
We were actually talking playoffs! Ah…it was fun.
This season just seems destined to go into the tank based off what transpired throughout the season. Gregg Williams and Freddie Kitchens are fine NFL coaches, but they’re the substitute teachers and this team is still relying way too much on younger talent, especially on offense, to win games.
Looking back, it was so obvious. Hue Jackson should’ve been fired at the end of the last year. That way, the organization really could’ve started anew with a new GM, coach and franchise quarterback in place.
