Ohio State football: 5 reasons OSU bounces back against Nebraska
By Alec Hartman
Ohio State football returns to action this weekend against Nebraska, as OSU tries to bounce back following an embarrassing loss to Purdue.
The Ohio State football program returns to the gridiron following a performance to forget in what was an embarrassing loss at Purdue.
Ohio State ended up falling on the sword that had been jabbing them in the side for the past few weeks resulting in their first loss.
Upsets happen. Teams lose. It’s what makes college football great. This wasn’t just any loss though. The Buckeyes lost by 29 points. A performance like this isn’t something the Bucks haven’t experienced before.

For what it’s worth, when the Bucks lose, they lose big. Two of the Buckeyes’ last three losses have been by 30+ points.
Unfortunately enough, this is the worst type of loss to have in the college football environment when in-game play is highly scrutinized especially in a loss.
This loss will hurt badly for some time but it’s nothing they can’t overcome. Situations like this have been what drove the team to success in the past.
Think about the 2014 Buckeyes for example who ended up winning the National Championship after one bad loss.
It’s still just early enough in the season for the Buckeyes to make amends. The Bucks are actually extremely fortunate that their impending loss occurred right before the bye week. This gave them plenty of time to regroup and figure out what has gone wrong.
In regards to the College Football Playoff committee, the Buckeyes were ranked relatively low at No. 10. Despite being six spots out of a playoff bert, the Ohio State football program finds itself within striking distance to make it back in at the end of the season.
If the Buckeyes show great improvement, they can show the committee that they’re a whole new team after the bye.
However, it’s definitely too late for the Buckeyes to stay with the same personnel groupings and scheme they’ve ran thus far. This goes for the offense and defense alike.
The offense must find a way to convert in the red zone up close and in short yardage situations. They’ve gotten held up in the most dire areas of each game. Also, this goes without saying that the defense needs to find what in the world is wrong with their whole unit.
The return to elite starts now as the Bucks will have a great opportunity to bounce back against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are just 2-6 on the season, albeit they are playing reasonably well right now, which still gives the Buckeyes a better chance than they’ll get to get back in gear.
Expect the Buckeyes to bounce back in a big way as they look to regain their groove against the Cornhuskers this weekend.
