1. The Buckeyes must win the turnover battle

Last week’s game against Nebraska should not have been nearly as close as it was. It was basically a mixture of everything that usually goes wrong for the Buckeyes. The problems all began at the beginning of the game too.

The Buckeyes allowed the Cornhuskers to go 75 yards and score on the first drive of the game due to terrible defense, the Buckeyes’ offense started with a three-and-out, and the Buckeyes turned the ball over three times. Next, the Buckeyes got the offense going in the second half and ended up coming out with an ugly win.

Everything went according to plan for the Buckeyes last week. It was just another typical win for the 2018 Buckeyes . These types of games have to change or this team will struggle mightily against competent opponents. The loss at Purdue is a great example of why playing like that will go south.

This week is the time for change as the Spartans will pose a much bigger threat. The Spartans have the fourth most interceptions in the conference. They are incredibly willing to make plays on defense as their offense is far less capable. The Buckeyes must be careful to keep their ground and not let the game get out of hand.

Weber and Haskins had problems holding onto the ball last game as they each lost a fumble in the first half. Fortunately, these mistakes did not end up costing them the game as Nebraska was less capable.

What is also fortunate for the Buckeyes is that the Spartans are even less careful with possessions as Lewerke is prone to throwing interceptions. Expect the Buckeyes to maintain control of this game by minimizing turnovers.
