1. The Buckeyes have owned the Terrapins since they’ve entered the Big Ten

The Terrapins are still relatively new to the Big Ten after joining the ranks in 2014. They had previously been affiliated with the ACC since 1953 where they won a national championship in their debut year. Since joining the Big Ten, the program has struggled mightily.

Their team has not went over .500 in win percentage to finish a season since their debut in 2014 when they went 7-6. The Terrapins have never had a winning record in the Big Ten. However, they have been to two bowl games but lost in both appearances. Recent coaching changes have also been something the Terrapins have had trouble with.

The Terrapins have had four different head coaches since 2014. Randy Edsall was the coach at the time of their merge to the Big Ten until coaching duties were turned over to Mike Locksley during the 2015 season. Then, former defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin took over as head coach in 2016. His efforts were just enough to take his team to a bowl appearance in his first season.

Durkin went on to go 4-8 overall in the 2017 season along with just one conference win. To kick off this season, Durkin was put on administrative leave. Coaching duties were handed over to coordinator Matt Canada. He coached for the Terrapins thus far this season and kept the team afloat with a 5-5 record. Durkin was fired.

The Buckeyes have beaten the Terrapins in all four of their match ups. The average margin of victory has been 39 points. Unfortunately for the Terrapins, the margin of victory only seems to get larger as the Bucks have put up 62 points in each of the last two match ups. The Buckeyes won 62-14 in Columbus last season.

This match up will be interesting regardless of how the Buckeyes have won in the past. There’s plenty of flaws that the Bucks will need to get fixed and lots of errors to amend.

In what should be an easy victory for the Buckeyes considering the Terps will be without their starting quarterback and one of their best running backs, there is still not a lot of confidence it will be a clean victory.
