5 Cleveland Browns whose stock jumped after another Bengals beatdown
Baker Mayfield
A sold-out crowd of 70,000 people chanted “Ba-ker, Ba-ker, Ba-ker.”
For those there in person, it’s was the dawning of a new era. Twenty years of absurdity were buried beneath Lake Erie thanks to one man: Baker Mayfield.
Yes, it was the lowly Bengals, a team Baker already crushed three weeks ago.
But this was a coronation. The final regular-season game in front of the home crowd, setting the Browns up to finish over .500 for just the second time since 1999.
The rookie just doesn’t say the right things, he goes out onto the field and produces.
The Browns have a franchise quarterback and the only thing slowing them down in 2018 is that there aren’t more games on the schedule.
In victory, Mayfield was 27 of 37, completing 73 percent of his passes. He’s now completed 64.6 percent of his passes on the season.
Only one man had a higher completion percentage. His name was Otto Graham. He’s in the Hall of Fame. Kind of a big deal. Graham completed 64.7 percent of his throws in 1953.
Mayfield can break the 65-year-old record with a stellar outing against Baltimore in Week 17.
Mayfield’s also chasing the rookie touchdown record, held by Peyton Manning (26). Mayfield currently has 24 touchdown throws on the season.
