Ohio State football: 5 reasons OSU will crush Washington, win Rose Bowl
By Alec Hartman
2. The Buckeyes have fared well against PAC-12 opponents
Another bowl season means another trip out west to face the winner of the conference of champions. Last season, the Buckeyes squared off with the USC Trojans in the Cotton Bowl. Now, the Buckeyes will face the Washington Huskies in the Trojans’ home of Pasadena.
The Buckeyes have played very well against PAC-12 opponents. Dating back to 2010, the Buckeyes are 6-0 against PAC-12 teams. This includes wide margin victories over Oregon State, USC, Oregon, California, and Colorado. This includes 3-0 against them in bowl games.
The last time the Buckeyes played against a PAC-12 team in the Rose Bowl Stadium was at the end of the 2009 season when they beat the Oregon Ducks. The PAC-12 hasn’t done very well so far in this bowl season as they are just 1-2. Their only win was Washington State with a two point win over Iowa State.
The Buckeyes have played well in bowl games in recent history regardless of whether if it’s been against the PAC-12 or not. The Bucks have won three out of their last four bowl games. This would make Urban Meyer 3-2 in bowl games since joining Ohio State in 2012. The Buckeyes were not eligible for bowl play in 2012 after completing an undefeated season.
If the trends stand true to what they are, then the Buckeyes should fare well once again against the PAC-12 in this Rose Bowl game. There’s nothing to suggest the Buckeyes should struggle against the Huskies as they’ve found great success in the past against PAC-12 opponents. Expect the Buckeyes to continue their reign over the PAC-12 in this bowl season.
