Ohio State football: 4 impacts Justin Fields’ transfer has on Buckeyes
Four impacts the news of ex-Georgia QB Justin Fields transferring to the Ohio State football program will have on the Buckeyes in 2019
As Clemson and Alabama prepare to duke it out over another national championship, the Ohio State football program send a strong message to the college world: Don’t forget about us.
The Buckeyes landed Georgia backup quarterback Justin Fields, a highly touted recruit who spent the season backing up Bulldogs’ starter Jake Fromm.
Fields informed the masses of his decision via Twitter Friday night, thanking Georgia and asking all questions be directed to the Ohio State sports information office.
There’s one hurdle standing in Fields’ way, though, from taking snaps at the Horshoe next season.
Usually, someone who transfers has to sit out a year.
Lately, the NCAA hasn’t been as strict with this policy, as there are ways to navigate around the by-laws, becoming instantly eligible.
Chris Hummer, who writes for 247Sports, thinks Fields may find instant eligibility after it came out that a former Georgia baseball player shouted racial slurs in his direction.
Fields could certainly make the case that he feared for his own safety. I won’t get into all the technicalities of NCAA eligibility policy, but I do contend he has a good shot to play in 2019.
Assuming Fields is deemed eligible, Ohio State will yet again be one of the most talked about teams in college football with Ryan Day taking over as the head coach.
Here’s four impacts Fields’ decision to become a Buckeye will affect the Ohio State football program.
