Cleveland Browns: 5 Biggest offseason workout winners
5. Kyle Kalis, OL
Kyle Kalis was signed off the street toward the end of last season and now he’s in competition for a starting job. OK, so it’s a long shot the St. Edward product is on the field for snap one as Austin Corbett is still the projected starter because he was the 33rd overall player taken in the 2018 draft, but even then, Kalis has positioned himself for a backup job.
Kalis had heads turning when he was getting starting reps at right guard with the first team during OTAs. I don’t think it means a whole lot, other than coaches were using those “voluntary” workouts to see what they have in Kalis, who played his college ball at Michigan.
With Kalis at guard, Kitchens and company were watching Corbett take reps at center.
At mini camp, Corbett, Eric Kush and Kalis all received first-team reps at right guard.
ClevelandBrowns.com writer Nick Shook called Kalis a “realistic option” at right guard, while left guard Joel Bitonio talked up the local product, stating that Kalis showed serious growth from where he was when he joined the Browns late last season.
The Browns head into summer with the key figures in place, but as you can see, there are some positional depth spots that need filled out.
