8 potential cuts Cleveland Browns may watch waiver wire for in 2019

2. Ryan Griffin, QB
Looking at Tampa Bay where Browns offensive coordinator Todd Monken came from, keep an eye on QB Ryan Griffin, the sixth-year pro from Tulane, who may be the odd man out with Blaine Gabbert signed to be the backup to Jameis Winston.
Griffin certainly looks the part at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds. He’s never thrown a pass in a regular season game. If you want anything to go by, and it’s preseason, so it doesn’t really mean anything, but he threw four touchdowns and zero interceptions in last year’s exhibition part of the schedule, which was good enough for a QB rating of 105.3.
The Browns enter the preseason with a backup quarterback roster of Drew Stanton, Garrett Gilbert and David Blough.
Gilbert probably would’ve won the Alliance of American Football’s MVP had the league not folded. He also attended the same high school as Baker Mayfield, but is four years older than the Browns’ incumbent.
Blough comes from Purdue and his weakness is his arm strength. He led Purdue over Ohio State in one of college football’s biggest upsets last season and the Boilermakers dismantled the Buckeyes, ending the Scarlet and Gray’s CFP hopes.
