Cleveland Browns: 7 Browns whose stock is down after Colts win
1. Austin Corbett, C
Austin Corbett is a young player, but if you want to frank about the second-year veteran, then you’ve got to wonder what position he can actually play in 2019.
Corbett got into the game as the backup center and committed at least two bad snaps. The one noticeable one was the high snap to Garrett Gilbert. The error killed the timing on the play and Gilbert had to throw the ball out of bounds.
So, I’ll ask it again. Where does he play? With Eric Kush getting the start in preseason week 2 and rookie Drew Forbes getting first-team reps in Week 2, your guess is as a good as mine.
HIs selection as the 33rd overall pick in the 2018 draft is also starting to look like a rare miss from general manager John Dorsey.
Think back to the time he was drafted. Everyone was expecting the Browns to use that pick in attempt to find Joe Thomas‘ replacement. Then they drafted Corbett, a player many thought would never play left tackle in the NFL.
HIs college position, left guard, is owned by Joel Bitonio, who when healthy, is a Pro Bowl level player.
Corbett’s second preseason is halfway over and his future with the team remains in doubt. Some are even asking if he’d still be on the roster if hadn’t been the first pick of the second round just a year ago.
