Cleveland Browns: 5 players whose stock is down after Buccaneers loss
3. Eric Kush, RG
After three preseason gams and a much talked about competition, the Browns have no right guard.
Eric Kush got the start at right guard for the third straight preseason game and he disappointed in the effort.
This swing and a miss on a bull-dozing Ndamkong Suh was just one of many non-highlights for the offense.
Kush had a shot to cement himself as the starter, but the window has been left open for rookie sixth-round pick Drew Forbes. It still seems like a stretch that a sixth-round pick could start in Week 1, but remember that the Browns started an undrafted rookie free agent at left tackle a year ago.
If Kush gets the reps during the first day of the practice week, we’ll have to assume that he’s at least going to start the season.
The Browns traded Kevin Zeitler during of the offseason and after the Bucs game, no one is disappointed with Olivier Vernon, who had two sacks.
But in dealing away Zeiter, the Browns lost Pro Football Focus’ efficient pass blocker with a veteran journeyman. There’s going to be a drop-off. There isn’t anyway around it.
There’s one more week left to settle this before the start of the regular season. Keeping hoping for a trade because this position looks like it will continue to be a problem.
