D’Ernest Johnson may have passed up Dontrell Hilliard on the depth chart, according to ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi.

So while Hilliard may not be fighting for his job when the initial 53-man roster is constructed, his employment with the Browns may be in question when Kareem Hunt comes off his eight-game suspension.

Reports indicated that the Browns really liked Hilliard even before general manager John Dorsey traded Duke Johnson to the Texans. It was assumed the Browns felt comfortable enough to move Johnson knowing they had Hilliard ready to step up.

But then Johnson, a product of the Alliance of American Football, stepped up in preseason Week 2 against the Colts, when he caught a touchdown pass. He followed that performance up by catching three balls for 43 yards out of the backfield against Tampa.

As already stated, both of these players are expected to make the final roster, so they not play against the Lions should the Browns decide to order up heavy doses of Austin Oullette and Trayone Graye.

Keep an eye on these two players once the season gets rolling because something will have to give once Hunt is eligible to return.
