Cleveland Browns: 6 Browns whose stock is up after preseason finale
2. Dontrell Hilliard, RB
Dontrell Hilliard probably staved off the push D’Ernest Johnson was making to earn backup reps behind Nick Chubb.
Hilliard had 78 total yards of offense, including a touchdown reception. Hilliard rushed the ball 12 times for 65 yards. He caught two passes for 13 yards. This is why the Browns are so high on Hilliard. HIs mere presence on the field doesn’t give away what the Browns are going to try and do.
This is the same of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
With Hunt starting the season suspended, Johnson probably makes the squad, but he may be the odd man out when Hunt becomes eligible.
That said, a lifetime can happen in eight weeks of an NFL season.
Interestingly, Johnson did not attempt a rushing attempt during the final preseason contest, but he did field a couple punt returns.
It’s too bad Austin Oullette didn’t get more opportunities earlier in the preseason. He was very impressive in catching the ball out of the backfield. Perhaps he’s a practice squad candidate.
