Cleveland Browns: 6 Browns whose stock is up after preseason finale
6. Austin Seibert, K
The kicking situation is as settled as it’s been all preseason thanks to Austin Seibert, who converted 2-of-2 field goals (long of 36) and two extra points in the victory against the Lions.
While much has been made about the kicking fiasco emanating out of Berea, Seibert has actually done decently when asked to kick in games.
For the preseason, he’s 6-of-7 on field goal attempts and 6-of-6 on point after tries. His long came against Tampa Bay in the third preseason contest, when he knocked out a 54-yarder right though the middle of the uprights.
Barring something unforeseen, Seibert will go into the season as the Browns’ kicker, and while all is good now, the fifth-round is as good as his last kick. Sounds brutal, but that’s the life of an NFL kicker.
How will he perform with the game on the line? The Browns’ kicker at the beginning of last season blew two games in the early part of schedule and those errant tries ended up costing Cleveland a playoff berth.
Congrats to Seibert for winning the job, but there’s no time to celebrate. The Browns have just one Week 1 victory under their belts since 1999 and fans will be hanging on every point when the Titans come to town.
