Cleveland Browns: 5 Browns whose stock is down after Titans debacle
1. Freddie Kitchens
There’s good news about being at Rock Bottom in Week 1. There’s only one way to go, and that’s up. Hopefully, that’s the case. After all, the Factory of Sadness seems to reveal new levels of despair every year.
The 18 penalties for 182 yards fall squarely on the shoulders of the head coach, who said after the game that he didn’t see all of these penalties coming.
Kitchens’ decision to hold players out during the preseason will be brought into question, especially with his squad looking terribly unprepared. Kitchens wasn’t the only coach to do this though, so it’ll be an easy shot at the rookie head coach.
Throwing this much shade Kitchens’ way isn’t easy, but there’s no place to look. He’s the head coach and his job to have his team prepared to play. This isn’t a hot take. His team committed 18 penalties!
Do that and you will lose.
Additionally, with a makeshift line cobbled together and the Browns down by 30, Kitchens continued to drop Mayfield back late in the game. For a second-year veteran who had already took his share of hits, this seemed unnecessary.
Kitchens hire was mostly applauded (me included), but there are plenty of skeptics out there. They were proven right on this day.
