Cleveland Browns: 5 Browns whose stock is up after MNF win vs Jets
Five Cleveland Browns who saw their stocks go up following the team’s victory over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.
The Cleveland Browns were winners on Monday Night Football for the first time since 2008, following a 23-3 victory over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
The Browns entered the game as favorites and delivered in a must-win contest. It may be hard to get that worked up about the second game of the season, but considering Freddie Kitchens is a first-year head coach, we just didn’t know how his team would respond under so much adversity.
And about that adversity…the Browns only committed nine penalties! Keeping the flags under single digits, that’s how these Browns roll! In all, the Browns were penalized for 85 yards. The Jets committed 12 infractions for 89 yards.
With the penalty talk out of the way, the Browns got an opponent in the Jets that were just what the doctor ordered. New York entered the game decimated by injury as quarterback Sam Darnold (mono) and linebacker C.J. Mosley were out.
The Jets took a further blow when Myles Garrett ended Trevor Simeon’s night, as the quarterback’s ankle got tied up in the turf as the defensive end’s weight landed down on him.
The victory pumps up the confidence of the fan base heading into a tough contest on Sunday Night Football against the Rams. The Browns now have a 50-50 shot of making the playoffs. Had Cleveland come up short, their playoff chances would’ve been reduced to about 10 percent.
Despite winning by 20, the Browns’ win wasn’t dominant, but that doesn’t matter. They needed it to right the ship and in victory, these five members of the team saw their stocks rise.
