Cleveland Browns: 5 Browns whose stocks are down after Denver defeat
1. Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield played down not looking to Odell Beckham Jr. on the final offensive play of the game. Facing 4th and 1, Mayfield chose to throw a short pass to Jarvis Landry, who was double-covered.
Meanwhile, OBJ was in one-on-one coverage and had his man beat, but Mayfield didn’t even look his way.
Baker, what’s going on? Is it the insurance commercials? You’re afraid of risk, now? Progressive has a sweet underwriting gig lined up for you after your playing days?
Mayfield’s the guy who re-created the Brett Favre draft day photo of No. 4 laying on the bed in his dorm room with all his friends surrounding him. Mayfield carried that gunslinger rep into the league and appeared to have it in the final eight games of 2018.
He deiced to play it safe, if you want to call throwing into double-coverage safe, though, and it just goes to show how much damage Freddie Kitchens is doing to the former Heisman winner.
Franchise quarterbacks can make that throw, especially when the guy on the other end is the supposed best wideout on the planet. Bernie Kosar lived for single-coverage. C’mon, Baker!
