Tight ends have been virtually non-existent for the Cleveland Browns, but things could get better in 2020 if the Browns target these four players.

Tight End has been the lost position for the Cleveland Browns, especially after David Njoku went down with a wrist injury against the Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 2.

In his absence, the position group has become a black hole for an underperforming Browns squads.

Sure, there are blips: At one time,  Ricky Seals-Jones gave us hope. Stephen Carlson made an amazing grab on the Thursday nighter against the Steelers.

But too often, the Browns and quarterback Baker Mayfield get nothing from the position. Would Njoku have made the difference? You’d think, statistically, the position would be better off than it is now, but even Njoku came with question marks.

This was supposed to be a big prove-it year for Njoku, but because of injury, we know as much about the former first round pick as we did back in August, being he oozes the physical traits and potential, but we haven’t seen enough on-field, consistently, to get excited about.

With Njoku entering year four, the Browns will have to start thinking about whether they want to extend the Miami product. They can always pick up his fifth year option after 2020, but with big money slated to go elsewhere (Myles Garrett, Baker Mayfield), you get the idea Njoku might not be part of the Browns’ long-term plans.

The Athletic’s Zac Jackson, months ago, wondered months ago about the tight end’s long-term future with Cleveland.

And even if the 23-year-old third-year veteran returns, the Browns need to do something to complement his talents, as well as add depth to the position.

Here’s four tight ends that can be had via the the 2020 NFL Draft, and free agency, that the Browns should target for next season.
