Cleveland Browns rumors: New uniforms a return to the past
As the Cleveland Browns sit out the NFL Playoffs, some tidbits on uniforms and other team notes as the coaching-GM search continues.
The Cleveland Browns will unveil new uniforms this spring, and appear to be returning to something we’re all familiar with.
With an expected unveiling prior to the 2020 NFL Draft, the new uniforms will look the traditional Brown’s uniforms, according to TheLandonDemand’s Tony Grossi (Twitter Link).
This falls in line with what Grossi has previously said. Some thought the Browns might implement a white helmet, a look used when Paul Brown founded the team, but that rumor was debunked back in May.
Throwing back to the days of Bernie Kosar, Mike Pruitt, Leroy Kelly and Jim Brown should be an easy sell to Browns’ fans, as the new uniforms have become not only synonymous with losing, but with being the doormat of the NFL.
Additionally, there were concerns about coaches in the press box being able to see the orange numbers from the press box.
Browns’ fans wouldn’t really care what the team’s uniforms looked like if the franchise actually won, but instead, all these color schemes do is remind of us Johnny Manziel, 1-31 and the most talented roster in 30 years losing double-digit games.
• Elsewhere around Browns town, the Patriots are expected to be disciplined for videotaping the Bengals when Cincinnati visited Cleveland in early December, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Video of Bengals security calling out New England went viral, as finding people willing to give the Pats the benefit of the doubt are harder to find that Browns’ wins in January.
• The Browns fired their head coach and general manager, but Freddie Kitchens’ staff remains in limbo. According to Sirius XM’s Alex Marvez, current team assistants have been temporarily being blocked from taking interview requests.
Don’t they know the trick to get out dodge? All that’s needed is a Power Point presentation to get out of this mess. Ask Kyle Shanahan to forward the blue print from four years ago. It probably still works.
• It’s pretty clear ownership still backs Baker Mayfield based off Jimmy Haslam’s press conference from earlier in the week. Haslam talked about all the grief Mayfield received for his play.
Criticizing Mayfield for being bad is fine, but so is recognizing the organization failed him by elevating Kitchens to head coach.
So desperate to placate their King, a la the Cavs and LeBron James, the Browns and John Dorsey mistakingly promoted Freddie Kitchens too soon.
Baker didn’t receive coaching and it became obvious, he is not LeBron James. LBJ delivered, even with all the drama. Baker, not so much.
Hiring Kitchens cost Baker a year of development and it’s hard to accept, especially with Josh Allen in the playoffs. The Bills were what the Browns were supposed to be…a team with a up and comping franchise quarterback grinding out wins and taking the next step.
