Mel Kiper 2020 mock draft has Cleveland Browns taking ACC lineman at 10
Breaking down how the Cleveland Browns made out in Mel Kiper’s latest 2020 NFL Mock Draft, as 5 offensive tackles were picked in the first round.
Plugging holes on the offensive line is a big necessity heading into 2020, and the Cleveland Browns are expected to remedy the problem in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Our most recent mock had the Browns coming away with Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, while even Georgia’s Andrew Thomas has fallen into Cleveland’s lap as prognosticators forecast the first round.
Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock was a bit a shocker, though, as the NFL Draft guru has the Browns bypassing Wirfs for Louisville tackle Mekhi Becton. If this ACC talent goes off the board at No. 10, he’ll be the second tackle taken in the draft, with Kiper pegging the Cardinals to take Thomas at No. 8.
Alabama’s Jedrick Wills was mocked at 11, while Wirfs fell to the Bucs at 14.
I won’t pretend to be the Left Tackle Whisperer, but Kiper gives it try, stating that at 6-foot-7, Becton’s stock is on the rise after he declared for the draft and scouts have taken a look of his 2019 film.
As for Wirfs, Kiper has the Big Ten product sliding onto the right side of Tampa’s offensive line.
If you’re reading this, you’re probably hoping the Browns don’t overthink this selection if Wirfs is still available. The last first-round tackle the Browns took from the conference is headed to the Hall of Fame.
Becton is a nice prospect, but so is Wirfs, who played in one of college football’s premier conferences, receiving instruction from one of the top college coaches in the business.
Houston’s Josh Jones was the only other tackle mocked after Wirfs went off the board at 25. Kiper praised his workouts at the Senior Bowl as the reason he felt comfortable for mocking him to the Vikings.
Kiper mocked five tackles in the first round, with the first four going in the top 14. It will be stunning the Brows don’t take one at No. 10, however, it will be intriguing to see what happens if a highly regarded player, such as Isaiah Simmons, slips.
And with Paul DePodesta indicating he’s going to be involved in the draft, there’s really no telling which direction the Browns are headed.
