Daniel Johnson could be the 2020 version of Oscar Mercado, meaning he’ll start the season at Triple-A, but will be an Indians uniform by June.

With the signing of Domingo Santana basically a done deal, the Tribe enters Spring Training with a jam packed outfield on the 40-man roster.

That said, look for Johnson to stick. Between Class AA and Class AAA, he hit a combined .290 (.868 OPS with 19 homers and 77 RBIs. He hit .306 with Clippers.

It’s also important to remember that Johnson opened up some eyes in Cactus League play last season. Considering the holes in the outfield, there was a sect of fans who thought the former National should’ve been in an Indians uniform in 2019.

Alas, he waited and continued to produce. Now, considering the outfield situation is as murky as ever, it won’t be a surprise to Johnson in Terry Francona‘s lineup before the All-Star break.

The Indians have one every-day starter (Mercado), while Francona has to figure everything thing else out in the desert. Can Franmil Reyes play defense? Will Jake Bauers hit? Is Bradley Zimmer an MLBer? These are just SOME of the questions pertaining to the outfield conundrum.
