Cardale Jones wins in the XFL again: How did his career stall in NFL?
Another successful week in the XFL for former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones begs the question: Why couldn’t the make it in the NFL?
Cardale Jones owned the XFL for another week, throwing two touchdown passes as he led the DC Defenders to their second straight victory.
Jones completed 23-of-37 passes for 276 yards. He had one pick, but most importantly, he got another win. Putting together victories is nothing new for Jones, who is now 13-0 as a starting quarterback since graduating from Cleveland’s Glenville High School.
Jones’ newfound success in the XFL, begs the question: Why didn’t he make it in the NFL?
Don’t @ me. it’s not lost on me that Jones is having success in a lesser league against lesser competition. But when given a chance, he produces. That’s why it’s puzzling no NFL coach could figure out what to do with this National Champion.
Jones has size and can throw the ball a country mile. While he’s not a running quarterback, he can evade pressure.
Despite entering the league as a third-round pick with some buzz having led Ohio State to the inaugural CFP title, Jones couldn’t crack the lineup in Buffalo.
Surprisingly, Jones threw passes in only one NFL regular season game, all the way back in 2016 for the Bills when he came into the game in relief, going 6-for-11 for 54 yards and an interception.
He was traded after the season and backed up Phillip Rivers for two seasons. He played in the 2019 preseason, but was cut. He didn’t catch anyone else and was one of the more prominent names to be announced for the XFL.
Perhaps a successful stint gets Jones back in the NFL, maybe not. As for now, he’s one of the most exciting, highlight-making players the XFL has to offer, and football fans, especially in Ohio, can enjoy his talents again.
