Sixth Round (Pick #168) – QB Khalil Tate, Arizona University

"With a new front office in place, the Browns could be looking for a young quarterback to groom as their backup of the future."

No.

Khalil Tate might be a great prospect, but to draft a  quarterback, to play quarterback? Why? The Browns already have a young player at the position who’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The team needs veterans behind him who can step in and fill the void in the case of an injury.

Purdue’s tight end Bryce Hopkins is available still, according to this mock draft. Considering the next pick, who knows if that’d make sense. Yet, there’s also linebacker Joe Bachie who’s from the area, and another Cleveland offensive linemen in Ben Cleveland of the Georgia Bulldogs. (Not sure if Ben and Ezra are related).

Another name to consider is Michigan State’s, Josiah Scott. The Browns need help in the secondary and they could find some real gems in the later rounds. Scott wouldn’t need to play much early on and could find a niche as a nickel or dime cornerback as a rookie.

Even Navy’s star quarterback, Malcolm Perry, makes more sense here, as he’s coming out as a wide receiver. The team should absolutely not waste a pick on a quarterback. Especially not one so late. Draft a kicker, a punter, a return man. Hell, draft a long-snapper. Draft anyone, or any position here. Just don’t draft a quarterback. Talk about a waste of a pick.
