With the XFL season canceled due to pandemic fears, these are the guys the Cleveland Browns should make a point to sign this offseason.
The Cleveland Browns are rebuilding their team. Surprise, we were lied to. While not a full tear-down rebuild, the front office has made more holes since taking over the team than they had under the last regime. Why? Frack, who knows? Right now we’re all just doing the Arthur-fist meme trying to not freak out and throw stuff.
The team needs to fill these holes and considering the team is going to be frugal and practical with their off-season spending, asking the team to spend money on aging veteran players seems unlikely. Which is why the XFL is such a great option for discounted, potential starters. None of these guys should be seen as the end-all-be-all catalysts of change but some of them can change the dynamic of the team and some of them could be huge components at a reasonable price.
In the mix are the best of the best defensively, seeing as how the Browns’ defense now arguably has more holes than the offense. Signing every top linebacker seems logical, considering the team has none you can truly rely on. The team should also look to acquiring some offensive playmakers as well. Though, not any of the top three quarterbacks. There’s a reason for that. Namely, Jordan Ta’amu should seriously stay in St. Louis, if the BattleHawks will have him because he could be the face of the league. The same goes for P.J. Walker.
Josh Johnson is a candidate for the backup job as he’s a bit older than the rest and not a threat to cause any competition controversy. Something you want to avoid at all costs. Yet, he seems to have a bigger paycheck for his name, and the odds that he could warrant looks like a starter, at least as a spot/transition type of player seems likely.
So let’s look at the talent that can truly help the Browns out.
