AFC West

Kansas City – RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (LSU)

Experts compared Clyde Edwards-Helaire to Priest Holmes after the selection was made, which is high praise. Holmes during his time in Kansas City racked up over 50 touchdowns in just three seasons. Edwards-Helaire won’t have that many opportunities with the Patrick Mahomes throws the football, so it hazards the question of what really was the point of drafting a running back when the defense needed to have holes plugged?

Grade: C+ (First and only first-round running back. Breaks my heart.)

Denver – WR Jerry Jeudy (Alabama)

I’m sure John Elway has yet to realize the mistake he made by taking Jerry Jeudy in the first round. After all, Elway’s only ever seems to want defensive players or quarterbacks in the first round and Jeudy’s neither. Lame jokes aside, Jeudy should help Drew Lock continue to improve next season. The receivers fell for a reason though, and there’s a good reason why; they’re not that hard to find.

Grade: B (Jeudy could be the next Ed McCaffery or the next Ashley Lelie)

Las Vegas – WR Henry Ruggs (Alabama), CB Damon Arnette (OSU)

The first thing uttered about Damon Arnette was that the Las Vegas Raiders reached for him. Which is always a sign of strong solidarity in decision making. The announcers weren’t overly critical, as Jon Gruden is still on many of their Christmas cards mailing lists, but they were still stern. A similar comment was made about Henry Ruggs going there, making him the first receiver taken in the draft which had (in the opinions of some) better options at the position.

Grade: B (Gruden got his guys, but histrorically Gruden sucks at drafting)

Los Angeles (Chargers) – QB Justin Herbert (Oregon), LB Kenneth Murray (Oklahoma)

The Chargers as a franchise has been doomed since they left San Diego. Imagine had they stayed there, and had this draft, or if they got Tua? The Polynesian community would’ve had a new hero after the passing of all-time great Junior Seau. Instead, the team is in the crap-hole that is Los Angeles. Justin Herbert is a quarterback and looks very “LA” but he stands to be yet another Oregon Duck bust. Joey Harrington and Marcus Mariota should be examples of what not to do in the draft. Kenneth Murray was an absolute steal at No. 23.

Grade: A- (Herbert’s development will make or break this)
