NFL Draft: Final day grades for the 2020 NFL Draft
By Chad Porto
NFC North
Chicago – OLB/DE Trevis Gipson (Tulsa), CB Kindle Vildor (Georgia Southern), WR Darnell Mooney (Tulane), OT Arlington Hambright (Colorado), IL Lachavious Simmons. (Tenn State)
The defense for Chicago could be a bother for divisional teams. You gotta like Kindle Vildor in the fifth and Trevis Gipson is a nice, versatile defender. There’s a lot to like here. The offense still remains a concern and besides Cole Kmet, there’s no real impact player on offense that the Bears got.
Grade: B-
Detroit – IL Logan Stenberg (Kentucky), WR Quintez Cephus (Wisconsin), RB Jason Huntley (New Mexico State), DT John Penisini (Utah), DT Jashon Cornell (OSU)
Gotta give Detroit credit on their day three. Logan Stenberg is a guy to be high on and if linemen trends broke early could’ve been a second-round guy. John Peninsini gets good penetration and Jason Huntley can evade one-on-one matchups pretty well. Their overall grade isn’t good but for Day 3, it’s not bad.
Grade: B+
Minnesota – DE D.J. Wonnum (South Carolina), DT James Lynch (Baylor), LB Troy Dye (Oregon), CB Harrison Hand (Temple), WR K.J. Osborn (Miami), OT Blake Brandel (Oregon State), SAF Josh Metellus (Michigan), Kenney Willekes (Mich State), QB Nate Stanley (Iowa), SAF Brian Cole II (Miss State), IL Kyle Hinton (Washburn University)
It doesn’t suck to be Minnesota on Day 3. Besides Miami and maybe Denver, it’s hard to argue that anyone had a better day than the Vikings. K.J Osborn, Blake Brandel, Josh Metellus, and Troy Dye are names to keep an eye out on. These are going to be a fun group of rookies to watch if you’re a Vikings fan.
Grade: A
Green Bay – ILB Kamal Martin (Minnesota), IL Jon Runyan Jr (Michigan), IL Jake Hanson (Packers), IL Simon Stepaniak (Indiana), SAF Vernon Scott (TCU), DE Jonathan Garvin (Miami U)
Jon Runyan Jr. will be a unique prospect to watch, as he comes from good stock. Simon Stepaniak could develop into a starter and Kamal Martin and Jonathan Garvin could be good backups as rookies. That said, the Packers told Aaron Rodgers to “sit on it” with this draft. This was about building a future winner. One with Rodgers no longer the starting quarterback in Green Bay.
Grade: C+
