NFL Draft: Second day grades for the 2020 NFL Draft
By Chad Porto
NFC East
New York (Giants) – SAF Xavier McKinney (Alabama), OT Matt Peart (UConn)
The Giants have so many holes, you just kinda gotta hope they’re getting these picks right. Neither guy is a bad prospect, just not one that gets you excited. Xavier McKinney could be a star.
Grade: B+
Philadelphia – WR Jalen Reagor (TCU), QB Jalen Hurts (Oklahoma), OLB Davion Taylor (Colorado)
You can spin taking Jalen Hurts all you want but even the Eagles are claiming they took him with the intention of developing him at quarterback. Yes, Kordell Stewart was taken by the Steelers for the same reason, but they had Neil O’Donnell at quarterback who left for the Jets after the season. Antwan Randle El was a converted receiver and Taysom Hill was an undrafted free agent. You don’t take slash players in the second round. Stewart was taken with the goal of developing him. Hurts is going to play quarterback and any hope of having a Hill-like season with Hurts is unlikely unless they switch his position permanently.
Grade: D+ (Gotta question the competency of the entire draft if Hurts seemed like a good idea.)
Dallas – CB Trevon Diggs (Alabama), DT Neville Gallimore (Oklahoma)
The Cowboys aren’t killing the town with hype but they’re getting some solid guys. Neville Gallimore is an impressive late-round pick with great interior pass-rushing skills. He could easily be one of the breakout, dark horse types of this draft.
Grade: B+ (Corners are always tricky to grade.)
Washington – RB Antonio Gibson (Memphis)
You gotta wonder why the Redskins aren’t trying to move guys to get more picks. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon. To leave the second day with one third-round running back? Wow. They’re sure not worried about being good in 2020.
Grade: C (That’s it. That’s all they took.)
