Total Pro Sports ranked Nick Chubb as the number five best running back in the NFL. While not insulting it is however flat out wrong.

While it isn’t an insult to assume Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns is the No.5 best running back in the NFL, it’s still not accurate. Admittedly, a runningback’s role has changed and what’s expected of him is different than where it was just ten years ago. A dynamic, dual-threat weapon is needed these days. Simply being good between the tackles runner isn’t going to cut it anymore, he needs to catch passes too. So obviously, the best running back in the league is the guy who can do it all; Christian McCaffery.

That doesn’t mean there are three other better running backs than Chubb. Keep in mind that Chubb averages 5.0 yards a carry, and has in both of his two years in the NFL. That’s behind an-average-to-bad offensive line too. Something that Ezekiel Elliott and Derrick Henry didn’t have to deal with.

Total Pro Sports whiffed on this one.

Yes, the Browns have the best back in the AFC North, but outside of McCaffery and Saquon Barkley, there isn’t a better running back in the NFL than Chubb. Sure, Henry has had two good years but he’s had them behind stellar offensive lines. Not exactly the same one-to-one comparison, because Chubb hasn’t had that benefit. The same could be said for Elliott, who’s been playing behind a great Dallas Cowboys offensive line for years, and despite that hasn’t matched the same level of efficiency that Chubb has.

While Chubb isn’t the receiver as Barkley or McCaffery, he’s certainly as good, if not a better runner on the ground than Elliot and Henry. Now with an improved offensive line, Chubb is looking like he could easily hit 1,500 yards this year and well over 10 touchdowns. If he doesn’t, then maybe he’s not as highly touted as this article states he is.

Yet, if he does hit those numbers, or more, maybe he deserves to be talked about alongside McCaffery as the best back in the league.
