Franmil Reyes hit a ball so deep it left members of the Detroit Tigers speechless.

Franmil Reyes has found that extra gear over the last ten days or so. At the end of Aug 16, Reyes his hitting .316 and has racked up five home runs since Aug 4. He’s currently rocking 15 RBI’s and has become a terror at the plate. It isn’t just his consistency and contact that has seemingly improved but his overall stroke. He’s raking balls deeper over these last twelve days than he seemingly has at any time in an Indians uniform.

Reyes had a nice night Friday, where he hit a home run and had three RBI’s but it was the Sunday game that Reyes broke through. On the day that would be the team’s 20th win in a row over the AL Central rival Detroit Tigers, Reyes hit two big blasts. The first was at the top of the fifth and went 434 feet to the left-field wall. An impressive sight but one that would be dwarfed later on in the game.

That second deep blast came in the seventh. Reyes took one to center field that went 453 feet and over the wall. When asked about the shot, Reyes said “It was a fastball, right down the middle. I got really impressed, I hit that one really far. I hit it right on the barrel.”

Reyes didn’t have trouble finding words, but Tigers centerfielder JaCoby Jones had trouble articulating an intelligent response, still stunned by the magnificence of the shot. When asked if he had ever seen a home run go over the bushes in centerfield before, Jones replied with, “Absolutely not. That was…wow.”

Wow indeed. Reyes has rare power, and in a time when the team needs all the offense it can get, a player like Reyes is instant offense at times. Just plugin and let swing. Hopefully, Reyes continues his hot streak and doesn’t just rely on the deep balls. That way he can be a more reliable option for the Cleveland Indians

That doesn’t mean we won’t appreciate more deep shots like Sundays. It was rather impressive and something that can get the fans to buy into a deep playoff run if it becomes are semi-regular occurrence.
