Zach Plesac to Boston for Andrew Benintendi

This one seems like a bit of a gamble, but The Athletic’s Jim Bowden sees Andrew Benintendi as a fix for the Indians’ outfield conundrums.

The Cincinnati native is a 20-20 threat, but hasn’t accomplished the fete since the 2017 campaign.  He came close in 2018 helping the Red Sox win the World Series, when he came up four homers short.

Since then, Benintendi’s been just kind of average at he dish, while his stolen bases (10) and home runs (13) dropped in 2019.

That said, Benintendi’s career is still relatively young. He was four-year player at Vanderbilt who became a 2015 first-round pick. He shot through the minors and enjoyed early success at the big-league level.

What are the odds? Considering Benintendi just went on the 10-day IL with a rib injury, don’t count on seeing this deal go through before Aug. 31. The Red Sox pitching isn’t very good, and it won’t be very good again this offseason.

Ideally, the Plesac and the team will be able to work something out, so that he can take back his place in the rotation.
