The Cleveland Indians asking price in a Mike Clevinger trade is rumored to be “Ridiculous.”

The Cleveland Indians are right in the thick of the American League Playoff hunt, but just days before the Aug. 31 trade deadline, the team’s biggest need remains an outfield bat.

With that in mind, trade rumors involving Mike Clevinger are heating up, with MLB Network’s John Heyman tweeting Clevinger’s name is being talked about in trade scenarios.

The longtime scribe added the Tribe’s asking price is “Ridiculous,” but Heyman added that it should be, considering Clevinger’s talent and the fact that he’ll be under club control for two more seasons after the current campaign.

MLB.com’s Mandy Bell, who appeared on WKNR Aug. 27, doesn’t believe Clevinger will be moved. In the even there is a trade, she added that the Indians never settle for less than what they’re asking for in a deal.

Basically, if the Indians receive an offer that knocks their socks off, then sure, Clevinger could be on the move. Otherwise, he’s a tremendous talent to have on your club, and that’s great, because he’ll be needed.

I’ve been writing up Clevinger trade scenarios the past week, but I always come back to a deal being more likely this offseason. The Indians are trending toward the postseason, and they’ll need him in the rotation, to pair up with Shane Bieber and Aaron Civale.

Names were omitted there because there should be some uncertainty surrounding the rotation moving forward. We all love Carlos Carrasco, but he’s having major issues pitching past the fourth inning. Triston McKenzie looked like the second coming of Cy Young in his lone start, but you just know there will be some bumps in the road in terms of growing pains.

Of course, there’s still Zach Plesac. I’m not sure how it happens, but I do believe he’ll be back with the big-league club at some point in 2020.

As for moving Clevinger this winter, the Tribe will have more time to see what McKenzie can do and gauge whether or not he’ll be a piece of the rotation next season. If he can, it makes it easier to move Clev.
