Cleveland Indians rumors: Jackie Bradley Jr. trade has Tribe curious
Cleveland Indians trade rumors have the Tribe interested in Jackie Bradley Jr.
The Cleveland Indians have to do something to fix their offensively challenged outfield, and the latest trade rumors suggest the team will make a move to trade for Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.
The Giants are also interested in Bradley, according to MLB Network’s John Heyman.
Bradley (82 wRC+) is by no means the second coming of Kenny Lofton at this point of his career, but with a slashline of .253/.317/.363, he’s a steady player, who’s even more valuable when you factor in his glove.
Oscar Mercado is still awaiting another chance at the alternate site in Lake County and it remains unclear if he’ll get another look at big-league pitching in 2020. Mercando (-29 wRC+) really struggled in the early going.
After his demotion, the Tribe’s been leaning on Delino DeShields (84 wRC+), as well as Greg Allen (48 wRC+).
Bradley really doesn’t look to be much better than what the Indians already have, but this is the type of trade talk fans should come to expect with Monday’s deadline right around the corner.
The trade rumors have centered on Mike Clevinger, but unless the Tribe is absolutely blown away, the hard-throwing right-hander will probably stand pat. It’s much more likely the Indians make a less flashy move. They’re minor league system is loaded with other players, particularly with players at the middle infield spot.
Point being: Chris Antonetti can swing a deal that doesn’t involve Clevinger.
For what it’s worth, the Red Sox looked an optimal destination for Clevinger, as they have Alex Verdugo, an outfielder that would look great in the Indians’ outfield.
Boston’s one of the few teams who are probably “out of it” in 2020 as well, so facing Clevinger in the postseason wouldn’t be an issue.
